Published once a year, The Franklin Gazette is the annual alumni magazine for Franklin University Switzerland. This issue from 2020 celebrated the school's 50th anniversary and was designed around the theme "Honoring the Past, Celebrating the Present, and Sustaining the Future." Working with The Write Idea, it was the first that we had designed for the university.
Since the Franklin is based in Switzerland, our approach focused on the Swiss or International Style of design aesthetic and utilized sans serif typography, simple geometric shapes, heavy rules, and adherence to the underlying grid. The angles from the parallelograms that make up the "F" in the school's logo were incorporated into the page elements to act as an additional layer of the grid for more dynamic layouts. The publication was broken up into three sections (past, present and future), each "flagged" with colors from Franklin's palette. The repetition of angle, shape and color throughout unify the various elements of the publication.
The publication was recognized with an American Graphic Design Award from Graphic Design:USA magazine and an Educational Advertising Award frm Higher Education Marketing Report.
