This project entailed the design and development of artwork to produce a series of permanent wayside exhibits mounted adjacent to the Mohawk River Trail. The 36” x 24” horizontal panels are mounted in the National Park Service 45 degree frames and are meant to engage and educate trail users about the history, industry and wildlife of the area. Panels utilize the City of Rome and Path to Discovery branding and coordinate with the Mohawk River Trail wayfinding maps.
In addition to design, layout and artwork, our team worked with the City of Rome, the Rome Historical Society, Fort Stanwix National Monument, and the Oneida Nation, to research and write the narrative text, as well as curate some of the imagery. Special assistance with historical information and image curation was provided by Art Simmons, director of the Rome HIstirical Society. Sarah Bilofsky researched, wrote and edited the text. Additional images were also gathered from a variety of additional sources. Robert O’Brien of Texas provided the illustrations of the tree, while Fiona Reid of Ontario, Canada, provided the illustrations of the mammals. Original illustrations were also developed by Kris (for the bird panel) and Steve Cook (for the Flood Plain and Mohawk River Watershed Panels).
