MATTON SHIPYARD INTERPRETIVE PANELS

Matton Shipyard, located on the Hudson River at Peebles Island State Park in Cohoes, NY, was once an important ship building facility. More than 340 wooden and steel tugs boats, barges, police boats and military vessels were built and repaired by its workers from 1916 to 1983. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, there is currently a restoration project underway to save the remaining buildings. This series of interpretive panels are a component of this project. Mounted adjacent to the Empire State Trail, they are designed to educate visitors about the history of the shipyard and its important part in the industrial history of the region. The project was developed in partnership with the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor and the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. The designs utilize elements from the New York State branding guidelines for the State Park system.
