An indispensable resource for paddlers, the New York State Canalway Water Trail Guidebook is a 284-page mile-by-mile guide that includes launch sites, paddler-friendly facilities and amenities, and places of interest for over 450 miles of the NYS Canal System, including the Erie, Cayuga-Seneca, Oswego and Champlain canals. In addition to the guidebook, there is an accompanying set of four water-resistant navigational maps with 14 full color maps. Each map has call outs containing the name, mile marker, address, phone number and amenity icons for each of the Water Trail sites, so paddlers have an easy to carry reference while they are paddling the waterway.
2k Design managed all the details for the production of this massive project which included: oversight of the data file containing nearly 800 sites along the water which was used to plot over 100 maps; the design of 26 icons that were used to identity different types of sites and amenities on the maps; art direction provided to the cartographer for the creation of the maps; revisions to and clean up of all the map art files; coordination of copywriting and editing; design of the guidebook and map set page layouts; and coordination of the printing.
